VIETNAM’S VINFAST TO BUILD UP TO 100,000 EV CHARGERS IN INDONESIA
Vietnamese automaker VinFast has unveiled ambitious plans to solidify its presence in Indonesia's rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) market. Central to these efforts is the development of a vast EV charging network, which will include between 30,000 and 100,000 charging stations, primarily focused on Java in the initial phase. The project, while still in its planning stages, has received attention from Indonesia's Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani, who emphasized that VinFast has already identified key locations for deployment. This aligns with the government's strategic push to encourage investments in sustainable infrastructure, particularly to support the adoption of EVs. In addition to its charging network, VinFast has pledged $200 million for the construction of a 120-hectare EV manufacturing facility in Subang, West Java. This factory, part of a larger $1.2 billion investment plan, is expected to commence operations by late 2025 and produce 50,000 EVs annually. The production will focus exclusively on the domestic Indonesian market, featuring four EV models: the VF5, VF6, VF7, and VF3. This endeavor positions VinFast as a key player in Indonesia's goal to establish itself as a regional hub for EV production and infrastructure development. Beyond vehicles and charging stations, VinFast is also exploring investments in renewable energy, such as solar and wind power, though discussions in this area remain preliminary. VinFast's sister company, electric taxi service Xanh SM, officially launched operations in Jakarta in December, marking its entry into Indonesia as its second international market after Laos. The service uses VinFast VF e34 electric cars, distinguished by their signature turquoise-blue color. Xanh SM aims to operate up to 10,000 electric taxis in Indonesia by 2025, depending on market conditions. While the service currently operates exclusively in Jakarta, Thanh revealed plans to expand to Bali in the near future.Source: https://jakartaglobe.id/business/vietnams-vinfast-to-build-up-to-100000-ev-chargers-in-indonesia (ICE GIACARTA)
