EU looks to deepen cooperation with Kazakhstan and Central AsiaThe European Union is committed to deepening its cooperation with Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries, European Commissioner for International Partnerships Jozef Síkela said during his visit to the region.“This is my first major mission as Commissioner for International Partnerships. It is no coincidence that I decided to visit all five Central Asian countries. This clearly demonstrates the EU’s commitment to fostering deeper and more sustainable cooperation with Kazakhstan and the region,” Sikela said Thursday in Astana during a meeting with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.Tokayev emphasized Kazakhstan’s strategic partnership with the EU, calling it a key economic and investment partner.“Kazakhstan remains the EU’s main partner in Central Asia, and the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement provides a solid foundation for expanding our multifaceted collaboration,” the president said. The talks focused on advancing economic projects in transport corridors, logistics infrastructure, sustainable energy, and digital solutions. The two sides also discussed regional and global issues, reaffirming their commitment to continued coordination on international platforms, including the “Central Asia – European Union” format.
