IRAN-TURKEY TRADE SURGES BY $7 BILLION

Iran's ambassador to Turkey announced that bilateral trade between the two countries reached $11.8 billion last year and surpassed $17.5 billion by February, with expectations to hit $19 billion by year-end. He highlighted a $7 billion increase in transit and transport volumes this year and emphasized the need for further improvements in rail, air, maritime, and port infrastructure.The trade growth saw six million passengers and 330,000 trucks crossing the border last year. In response, both countries have agreed to increase border crossings from three to five and enhance rail connectivity and flights. Key discussions also focused on resolving transit challenges, improving transport cooperation, and developing critical infrastructure. Additionally, both nations are working to strengthen economic ties through free trade zones. Iran’s Free Zones High Council Secretary, during his visit to Turkey, met with Turkish officials to discuss joint projects and mechanisms to achieve the $30 billion trade target. He also visited Istanbul’s Free Trade Zone, aiming to attract investment and increase Iranian exports. (ICE TEHERAN)
