LOBLAW INTRODUCES 'TARIFF' SYMBOLS ON PRODUCTS WITH HIGHER PRICES DUE TO TRADE W

The Canadian biggest retailer - Loblaw - is introducing new symbols next to prices to indicate if a product's price has been affected by retaliatory tariffs. This change comes after the U.S. imposed tariffs on Canadian goods, prompting Canada to respond with its own tariffs. The new "tariff" symbol is a letter T inside a white triangle over a grey box. Loblaw's CEO mentioned that prices won't rise immediately due to existing inventory but will eventually be impacted, especially for fresh produce within a week or two. Other products may see price increases in about six weeks. Loblaw is also adding maple leaf symbols to products made in Canada, which may also experience cost increases if they contain U.S.-sourced ingredients. Like other retailers, Loblaw is working to replace U.S.-sourced products with alternatives from Canada or other countries. Other grocers are similarly highlighting Canadian products in their stores, though some items, like fresh produce in winter, are harder to replace due to reliance on U.S. imports. (ICE TORONTO)
