INDONESIAN GOVT OUTLINES FOUR PHASES FOR PALM OIL DOWNSTREAM DEVELOPMENT

The Indonesian government has introduced a four-phase strategy for palm oil downstreaming, under the National Long-Term Development Plan 2025–2045. The stages include strengthening the industrial ecosystem, boosting domestic production capacity, enhancing global competitiveness, and achieving net exports. With Indonesia contributing 68.7% of global crude palm oil (CPO) production, initiatives like the B35 biofuel policy and free nutritious meals program are expected to drive demand and support sustainable growth. Efforts to enhance food self-sufficiency and environmental sustainability include promoting intercropping, agroforestry, and the Cattle and Oil Palm Integration System (SISKA). These methods aim to boost farmer incomes while maintaining ecological balance. Palm oil biomass, such as fibers and shells, is being explored as an alternative energy source, complementing biofuel development and aligning with national energy mix targets. The government also aims to align palm oil management with circular economy principles, reusing palm oil byproducts to reduce waste. Initiatives such as peatland restoration, regenerative agriculture, and sustainable practices seek to limit carbon emissions and ensure environmental protection, reflecting Indonesia’s commitment to balancing economic growth with sustainability.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/348025/govt-delineates-four-stages-of-palm-oil-downstreaming (ICE GIACARTA)
