INDONESIA ACCELERATES OIL OUTPUT & REFINERY PROJECTS, STRENGTHEN ENERGY SECURITY

The Indonesian government is focused on boosting national oil production and building new refineries with a combined capacity of one million barrels per day, addressing declining oil and gas lifting in recent years. Following a Cabinet meeting led by President Prabowo Subianto on March 1, 2025, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) announced plans to accelerate exploration and tender processes for new oil and gas work areas to increase domestic production capacity. The construction of oil refineries will be undertaken in multiple regions, including Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Eastern Indonesia, with the National Downstream and Energy Security Task Force targeting an expansion in crude oil processing capacity from 500,000 barrels per day (bpd) to one million bpd. Sixteen oil processing installations are planned across Kalimantan, Java, Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua. The government is also consolidating investment values and construction schedules, collaborating with two potential technology providers from the U.S. and China. These initiatives aim to enhance Indonesia's energy security and strengthen its domestic oil processing capabilities. The government emphasizes that the precise investment figures for the project will be finalized after the technology providers present their proposals. This comprehensive approach underscores Indonesia's commitment to ensuring energy resilience and meeting national demand.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/3908/energy-and-resources/indonesia-accelerates-oil-production-refinery-expansion-to-boost-energy-security  (ICE GIACARTA)
