Kazakhstan plans six-month ban on poultry egg importsKazakhstan plans to ban the import of hen eggs from April to September 2025.The draft decree of the Republic's Minister of Agriculture has been published on the Open Online Legal Database website."Similarly to previous years, we propose to introduce a temporary ban on the import of poultry eggs by all types of transport for a period of six months in the spring-summer period from April to September this year," the document says.The Ministry of Agriculture believes that the ban on egg imports will have a positive impact on the development of the egg industry in Kazakhstan and will allow the formation of a transparent price chain.The document also reports that there are 70 poultry farms in the republic, including 34 egg farms, 29 meat farms and 7 breeding and reproduction farms.According to official statistics, in 2024, the export of edible eggs amounted to 43.2 million pieces, import to 87.4 million pieces, the domestic production covering 99% of the country’s needs. Imports are mainly from EAEU countries.As reported, a similar ban was introduced in Kazakhstan last year during the spring-summer period. (ICE ALMATY)
