EU AND INDONESIA DISCUSS STRENGTHENING PARTNERSHIP AND COOPERATION
On March 13, 2025, Sugiono, the Foreign Affairs Minister of Indonesia, met with Niclas Kvarnstrom, Managing Director for Asia and the Pacific at the European External Action Service, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta. Kvarnstrom, who chaired the European Union delegation at the 8th Joint Committee Meeting between Indonesia and the EU, discussed enhancing Indonesia-EU cooperation, particularly in fair and mutually beneficial trade and investment. The EU expressed appreciation for Indonesia's economic growth roadmap and support for ongoing economic reforms and government efficiency initiatives. During the meeting, Indonesia's Foreign Affairs Minister emphasized the country's commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with the EU, backed by a stable economy and a conducive business environment. Both parties underscored the importance of multilateralism and the supremacy of international law for global stability and certainty. The EU acknowledged Indonesia's role as a democratic partner committed to multilateralism and a rule-based order, highlighting Indonesia's consistent adherence to international law in various global forums, including the United Nations. Additionally, the discussions covered potential cooperation in sustainable energy, food security, and environmental management. The EU expressed its readiness to support Indonesia's green development policies, including energy transition and improved environmental governance.
