Antimonopoly agency probes price collusion by mobile operatorsKazakhstan’s Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition (the Antimonopoly Agency) has launched an investigation against the mobile operators into their price collusion, said Bolat Sambetov, the deputy chairman of the Agency.“Over the past few years, we have received numerous complaints. We have been monitoring the situation in the market to find out that the tariffs are rising. Over the last two years, almost all telecom operators have raised their tariffs. We are currently conducting an investigation into price collusion. The operators simultaneously began raising tariffs, which is interpreted by the antimonopoly legislation as collusion,” Sambetov said on the sidelines of a Monday session of the Majilis, the lower chamber of the parliament, without mentioning the names of the mobile companies under investigation.Earlier, the Antimonopoly Agency had issued warnings to the mobile operators regarding planned price hikes, urging them to reconsider their strategies. The Agency also announced plans to analyze price trends in 2024 and to provide legal assessment in accordance with the national legislation. (ICE ALMATY)
