KAZAKHSTAN-NATIONAL/BANK-BASE/RATE-FORECAST

National Bank forecasts slower decline in base rate: up to 16% in 2025 and up to 14% in 2026Members of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the National Bank of Kazakhstan changed the assessments on the base rate, the report on monetary policy for February said. The median value of the base rate will decline to 16% in 2025 and to 14% in 2026 and 11.5% in 2027. In November, the National Bank of Kazakhstan forecast a decrease in the median base rate to 13.75% in 2025 and to 12% in 2026.The MPC members' base rate range for 2025 is defined as 14.5-18% (instead of 12-14.75% previously forecast), for 2026-12-17% (previously 10-13.75%), for 2027-8-13.5%."The opinion of each MPC member was based on the information available at the time of the meeting. This is the members' assessment of the character of the monetary policy which, in their opinion, is necessary to achieve the targeted inflation indicators, taking into account the current conditions and future prospects at the time of the decision," the macro-regulator's report reads. However, as the National Bank warned, the proposed path of the base interest rate does not imply that the National Bank is obliged to keep it at that level."The National Bank will explain in the communication of decisions the factors and conditions for their adoption, including in the event of a deviation from the previously assessed path," the document says.
