MINISTRY OF INDUSTRY EXPECTS POSITIVE GROWTH FOR INDONESIA'S TEXTILE INDUSTRY

The textile, apparel, and footwear industry in Indonesia has demonstrated positive performance, aligning with its role as a priority sector in the 2025–2045 National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN). The government is committed to fostering the growth of this industry to enhance national competitiveness and create employment opportunities. In the first quarter of 2025, the Directorate of Textile, Leather, and Footwear Industry of the Ministry of Industry issued Business Certificates (SKU) for four textile and apparel industries, totaling an investment of IDR 304.43 billion and estimated to employ 1,907 workers. The industry saw growth rates of 0.09 percent, 5.78 percent, and 6.83 percent in 2024, supported by significant increases in both Foreign Investment (PMA) and Domestic Investment (PMDN).Director of Textile, Leather, and Footwear Industry, Ministry of Industry, Rizky Aditya Wijaya, highlighted that total investment in the sector reached IDR 29.92 trillion in 2023 and increased sharply by 31.1 percent to IDR 39.21 trillion in 2024. This surge in investment reflects investor confidence in the industry's prospects, particularly in the labor-intensive apparel sector, which saw investment rise from IDR 4.53 trillion in 2023 to IDR 10.20 trillion in 2024, an increase of 124.9 percent. With Indonesia's large population, the domestic market potential for clothing, footwear, and head coverings is projected to reach IDR 119.82 trillion. Export opportunities for the industry are also expanding, especially with the new tariff policy implemented by the United States against Canada, Mexico, and China. In 2024, total US imports of apparel and footwear reached US$138.19 billion, with Indonesia's exports to the US amounting to US$7.11 billion, or around 5.5 percent of total US imports. Indonesia recorded a growth in apparel and footwear exports to the US of 7.5 percent from US$6.61 billion in 2023 to US$7.11 billion in 2024. This change in tariff policy presents an opportunity for Indonesia to increase its competitiveness in the global market.Source: https://money.kompas.com/read/2025/03/17/131821626/kemenperin-klaim-industri-tekstil-indonesia-tumbuh-positif-pada-2025-ini-data (ICE GIACARTA)
