INDONESIA TARGETS NINE INDUSTRIES FOR CARBON TRADING BY 2027

Indonesia's Ministry of Industry aims to lead nine industrial sub-sectors, including cement, textiles, steel/metal, paper pulp, ceramics and glasses, food and beverage, fertilizers, transportation means, and chemicals, in carbon trading activities starting in 2027. The ministry's Head of the Industrial Services Policy Standardization Agency (BSKJI), Andi Rizaldi, emphasized the need to collect data on each subsector's carbon emissions to reduce industrial emissions by 912 million tons by 2030, as outlined in Indonesia's Enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution document. Support from other ministries and institutions is essential for this initiative. Rizaldi highlighted the importance of simplifying administrative processes for industry players through the National Industrial Information System (SIINas), allowing them to submit reports efficiently. This approach aims to avoid burdening industries with cumbersome administrative obligations. The Ministry of Industry is committed to providing convenience in administrative matters to facilitate the carbon trading initiative.Indonesia's Industry Minister, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, stressed the significance of promoting eco-friendly practices in domestic industries to combat climate change and accelerate decarbonization efforts. He noted Indonesia's vast green energy potential, including water, wind, solar heat, geothermal, sea waves, and bioenergy. The ministry has launched the standardization of green industries to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, advocating for the consistent implementation of the green industry concept to achieve the country's environmental targets.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/348777/indonesia-targets-nine-industries-for-carbon-trading-by-2027 (ICE GIACARTA)
