The government will prioritize state-owned enterprises (SOEs) to begin work on coal-to-dimethyl ether (DME) gasification projects, the realization of which will determine the future of downstream coal industry development. President Prabowo Subianto’s administration has been looking to revive the coal downstream projects left by the previous leadership under former president Joko “Jokowi” Widodo. Indonesia will consider collaboration with countries in Asia, the United States and Europe to obtain an efficient technology. Chinese investors had shown interest but later withdrew.
