INDONESIA PLANS TO BUILD FLOATING SOLAR POWER PLANTS ON TWO DAMS BY 2027
Indonesia's Ministry of Public Works plans to install floating solar power plants (PLTS) on two dams, including the Jatigede Dam in West Java, targeting operation by 2027. Director General of Water Resources, Lilik Retno Cahyadiningsih, mentioned that the project will collaborate with the state electricity company, PLN, but is still in the identification stage. The Jatigede Dam already generates energy through its hydroelectric power plant and has the potential for a 100 MW floating PLTS. Minister Basuki Hadimuljono highlighted the potential of Indonesian dams to generate electricity using the floating PLTS method, utilizing more than 20 percent of the dam's surface area. In November 2023, President Joko Widodo inaugurated the Cirata Floating Solar Power Plant, the largest in Southeast Asia, with a capacity of 192 MW. Basuki noted that 43 dams have the potential to generate 258 MW of hydroelectric power, including Way Sekampung Dam, Jatigede Dam, and Leuwikeris Dam. Before 2015, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) had built 23 dams used as hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 507 MW. These dams include Batutegi Dam in Lampung, Jatiluhur Dam in West Java, and Bili-Bili Dam in South Sulawesi. The infrastructure development has significantly contributed to Indonesia's renewable energy capacity. Additionally, Basuki announced plans to build 11 more dams between 2021 and 2027, with a hydroelectric power generation potential of 122 MW. This initiative aims to further enhance Indonesia's renewable energy resources and support the country's sustainable development goals.Source: https://indonesiabusinesspost.com/3943/energy-and-resources/indonesia-to-build-floating-solar-power-plants-on-two-dams-targets-operation-in-2027 (ICE GIACARTA)
