INDONESIA: MINISTER ENGAGES ITALY TO STRENGTHEN INDONESIA’S ENERGY TRANSITION
Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, affirmed Indonesia’s commitment to the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) despite the withdrawal of the United States from the program. Following a meeting with representatives from nine donor countries—including Germany, Japan, the UK, France, Denmark, Norway, Italy, Canada, and the European Union—he confirmed that Germany and Japan would continue as co-leads, ensuring ongoing financial and strategic support for Indonesia’s energy transition. The initiative aims to help Indonesia achieve net zero emissions by 2060, with an interim goal of reducing emissions by up to 43% with international assistance by 2030. To facilitate this transition, the government has established the Energy Transition and Green Economy Task Force, which operates through four working groups focusing on green energy, industry, partnerships, and social-economic development. So far, 54 projects have secured international funding commitments totaling US$1.1 billion, including US$233 million in grants for 45 projects and loan or equity funding for nine others. Additionally, the International Partners Group (IPG) has secured a US$1 billion guarantee through Multilateral Development Banks (MDB) to accelerate clean energy initiatives, such as renewable energy development and industrial decarbonization. Key projects under JETP include the Muara Laboh geothermal plant in West Sumatra, set to begin operations in 2027, as well as the Saguling solar power plant and an early retirement plan for the Cirebon coal-fired power plant. Future initiatives include waste-to-energy projects, such as the Legok Nangka facility in West Java. Airlangga emphasized that these developments align with JETP’s goals of reducing Indonesia’s reliance on fossil fuels while advancing sustainable and pragmatic energy solutions.Source: https://katadata.co.id/ekonomi-hijau/investasi-hijau/67e163c271373/menko-airlangga-temui-perwakilan-9-negara-donor-jetp-bakal-komitmen-dukung-ri (ICE GIACARTA)
