INDONESIAN SHOES ENTREPRENEURS EXPLORE NEW EXPORT MARKETS
The Indonesian Footwear Association (Aprisindo) is preparing for potential trade policy changes under US President Donald Trump, particularly regarding high tariffs on Indonesian products. Executive Director of Aprisinido, Yoseph Billie Dosiwoda, stated that the industry is in a wait-and-see mode ahead of Trump's announcement on April 2, 2025. If tariffs increase, the price of footwear entering the US will rise, potentially reducing demand and orders from American buyers. To mitigate risks, Aprisindo plans to reduce reliance on the US market by expanding exports to Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Footwear entrepreneurs are also focusing on enhancing product quality, innovation, and production efficiency to stay competitive despite higher tariffs. Additionally, they aim to engage with US trading partners to explore solutions such as shared tariff burdens or alternative trade agreements that could ease the impact of new policies. Aprisindo also sees opportunities in free trade agreements (FTAs) to strengthen exports to other regions. The association urges the government to expedite trade deals like the Indonesia-EU Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) to improve market access and competitiveness in Europe. Entrepreneurs also seek government incentives, including tax breaks, easier access to financing for technological investments, and streamlined import processes for high-quality raw materials unavailable domestically.Source: https://ekonomi.bisnis.com/read/20250326/257/1864746/pengusaha-sepatu-cari-pasar-ekspor-baru-antisipasi-kebijakan-donald-trump (ICE GIACARTA)
