SMALL-FORMAT STORES ARE LOSING MARKET SHARE IN POLAND

According to data from the Polish Chamber of Commerce and CMR, in February 2025 the value of sales in small-format stores up to 300 m2 was 0.5% lower than a year ago, but the number of transactions dropped by 12%.In February 2025, sales in small-format stores fell for another month in a row compared to the same period a year earlier, for the most popular alcohols, i.e. beer (in liters it was sold 11% less than a year ago) and pure vodkas (a 13% drop), while still wines and whiskeys also sold worse than a year earlier. On the other hand, the drinks category recorded high growth - in February 2025, the number of receipts featuring this type of alcohol was 16% higher than a year earlier.The increase in flu and cold cases has led to a dynamic increase in sales of products that help fight fever, cough and sore throats – in February 2025, the number of receipts featuring cold and flu remedies was 19% higher than a year earlier.Small-format stores up to 300 m2 include: small grocery stores up to 40 m2, medium grocery stores 41-100 m2, large grocery stores 101-300 m2, specialist alcohol stores.
