KAZAKHSTAN-SMARTPHONES-IDENTIFICATION

Deadline for registration of imported mobile phones extended till May 25, 2025 in KazakhstanIn Kazakhstan sellers and citizens have been given a 60-day extension to complete the registration of mobile phones until May 25, 2025, the press service of the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry reported."After a series of meetings with business representatives, it was decided to provide an additional 60 calendar days for the registration of previously imported but not yet sold devices. This means that until May 25, 2025, businesses and citizens can legalise such devices on the https://kz-imei.kz portal," the report says. The Ministry of Digital Development clarified that changes in the rules of registration of subscriber equipment for mobile communications imported into the country after the specified date will come into force in Kazakhstan from March 25, 2025.At the same time, all phones that were already working in Kazakhstan's mobile networks before March 25 will automatically be included in the white list and will continue to work without any restrictions. The department explained that under the new requirements, all devices imported into Kazakhstan for the first time must undergo mandatory verification in the GSMA's international database, as well as in the country's tax and customs systems. The check will include compliance of the device with the declared characteristics, legality of the import, availability of accompanying documents, as well as verification of the IMEI code in the database of stolen, lost or blocked devices."After the specified period, devices that have not been legalised will have limited access to mobile services. In addition, if a device is connected to the Internet and does not register within 30 days, it will be blacklisted and blocked," the press service said. The Ministry added that the measures are aimed at reducing the volume of shadow sales of mobile devices, protecting consumer rights, creating transparent and fair business conditions and ensuring the safe use of mobile devices.
