INDONESIA OPENS 10 NEW EXPORT MARKETS TO ANTICIPATE TRUMP TARIFF EFFECTS

Indonesia is taking strategic steps to diversify its export markets following the introduction of President Donald Trump's tariff policy, which imposes a minimum 10% duty on all U.S. trade partners. Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, emphasized the urgency of accelerating negotiations for key trade agreements, including the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA), which could open access to the EU’s US$16.6 trillion market. Additionally, the Indonesia-Eurasia Economic Union CEPA (I-EAEU CEPA) is progressing and may unlock trade with Russia’s US$2.5 trillion market. President Prabowo Subianto has also stressed the inclusion of transparency and regulatory issues to ensure comprehensive outcomes. In light of these developments, Indonesia is deepening its engagement with a wide range of global economic alliances such as BRICS+, The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP,) ASEAN, G20, Gulf Cooperation Council(GCC), Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF), Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). These efforts aim to mitigate the economic impact of Trump’s tariff hikes—where Indonesian products now face up to 32% in duties—and enhance the country’s global trade flexibility. Airlangga noted that Indonesia’s multi-pronged trade strategy will improve market access, reduce reliance on a single economy, and boost national economic resilience.Source: https://ekonomi.bisnis.com/read/20250408/12/1867480/prabowo-buka-10-pasar-ekspor-baru-demi-antisipasi-efek-tarif-trump (ICE GIACARTA)
