President Prabowo Subianto has signed Presidential Instruction No. 6/2025, marking a major policy shift by halting rice imports and prioritizing domestic production. The regulation sets a 2025 target of 3 million tons of rice to be procured from local farmers. To support this, state logistics agency Bulog is instructed to absorb harvests at a fixed Government Purchase Price (HPP) of IDR 6,500 per kilogram for dry harvested grain (GKP), regardless of quality. This move aims to protect farmers and ensure a stable local supply.The instruction also strengthens the role of the Government Rice Reserves (CBP), extending its use beyond market stabilization (SPHP program) to include food assistance, disaster response, and social programs such as the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) initiative and international aid.
