INDIA CUTS LIQUEFIED NATURAL GAS (LNG) BUYING AS OTHER fuels become more attractive

Indian energy importers, including Gail India and Indian Oil Corp, are increasingly turning to cheaper oil products like naphtha and propane due to elevated LNG prices caused by outages at export plants. Industries such as ceramic tile-makers have also shifted to cheaper propane. India’s LNG imports this month are estimated to average 1.9 million tons, down 5% from the same month last year and the lowest monthly volume since December 2023, according to data analytics firm Kpler. Prices of LNG have been elevated due to a series of recent outages at export plants in Malaysia to Australia. This shift, resulting in lower LNG imports, frees up supply for other Asian and European buyers. (ICE NEW DELHI)
