Kazakhstan reports an increase in food consumption in 2024Food consumption in Kazakhstan rose in 2024 across nearly all food categories compared to the previous year, except for bread and cereal products, according to a survey of 12,000 households conducted by the National Statistics Bureau of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms.Per capita consumption of milk and dairy products in 2024 rose by 2.2% to 232.2 kg annually. The consumption of eggs increased by 1.9% to 205.8 kg per capita, meat and meat products by 3.1% to 82.6 kg, vegetables by 2.7% to 80.6 kg, fruit by 5.1% to 80.2 kg, potato by 0.4% to 45.2 kg.Last year, there was in increase in the consumption of sugar, jam, honey, chocolate, and confectionery (up 1.9% to 43.1 kg), vegetable oils and fats (up 0.6% to 15.7 kg), as well as fish and seafood (up 1.4% to 14.2 kg).In contrast, bread and cereal consumption declined by 0.7% to 123.5 kg per capita.The National Statistics Bureau also provided monthly per capita averages for specific foods in 2024: potatoes (3.8 kg), first-grade wheat flour bread (2.3 kg), beef (2.1 kg), apples (1.5 kg), sugar (1.4 kg), rice (1.3 kg), milk (1 liter), kefir (1 liter), eggs (17.2 each), pasta (0.8 kg), fresh or chilled fish (0.7 kg), and black tea (0.1 kg).In 2024, inflation in Kazakhstan came in at 8.6% compared with 9.8% in 2023.
