PROSPERITY SUMMIT RETURNS TO HONG KONG NEXT MONTH WITH FOCUS ON AI, TRADE WARS
Prosperity summit returns to Hong Kong next month with focus on AI, trade wars The second edition of a summit aimed at fostering greater exchanges among experts and thought leaders to promote sustainable global prosperity will take place in Hong Kong next month. This year’s Global Prosperity Summit will feature five expert panels, covering topics such as space development, artificial intelligence, trade wars, climate change, and Hong Kong’s pivotal role as a bridge between China and the world. Notable speakers include Wu Hailong, president of the China Public Diplomacy Association and former assistant minister of Foreign Affairs, and Andrew Ng Yan-tak, a prominent British-American computer scientist and technology entrepreneur. Yang Gao, a professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, will moderate a panel discussion on space exploration breakthroughs. The summit will be held at Fullerton Ocean Park Hotel in Aberdeen from May 19 to 21, drawing participants from academia, business and policy sectors across North America, Europe, mainland China and Asia. Initiated by a group of the city’s leading business, academic, and thought leaders, the summit aims to provide a platform for discussions on pressing issues shaping global prosperity. The inaugural summit took place last year. Summit founder Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee, convenor of the city’s key decision-making Executive Council, said she was confident the coming gathering would be another successful event to enhance Hong Kong’s global connectivity. “We take great pride in Hong Kong’s unique role in connecting China with the world under the ‘one country, two systems’ arrangement,” Ip, who is also chairwoman of the Savantas Policy Institute, said. During the opening speech of last year’s summit, Ip underscored the importance of global prosperity. She said the preoccupation of superpowers with challenges to their global dominance had led to protectionist policies, including tariff increases and financial sanctions. This year, the European Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong has joined the Savantas Policy Institute and the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies as co-organisers. https://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/society/article/3307845/prosperity-summit-returns-hong-kong-next-month-focus-ai-trade-wars (ICE HONG KONG)
