INDONESIAN TEXTILE ENTREPRENEURS PREPARE US$250 MILLION INVESTMENT
The upstream textile industry in Indonesia is set to increase its production capacity through a US$250 million (approx. IDR4.21 trillion) investment, aimed at reactivating and expanding polyester-based operations. This move, led by members of the Indonesian Filament Yarn and Fiber Producers Association (APSyFI), is largely in response to global trade shifts triggered by the US-China trade war and potential reciprocal tariffs, including an additional 10% US tariff. As a result, producers are redirecting focus from exports to the US toward meeting growing domestic demand, despite existing market challenges. According to APSyFI Chairman Redma Gita Wirawasta, Indonesia's polyester fiber and filament consumption has the potential to reach 1.4 million tons under normal conditions, though current usage is only 880,000 tons, with imports making up 54%. With support from government policies like Import Approval (PI), Technical Considerations (Pertek), and Anti-Dumping Import Duties, three domestic producers will reactivate capacity this year and one foreign investor is set to begin operations next year. These efforts are expected to add 190,000 tons of polyester fiber, 250,000 tons of POY, and 50,000 tons of DTY annually. POY (Partially Oriented Yarn) is an intermediate polyester yarn used in the production of DTY (Draw Textured Yarn), which is further processed to become stretchable and textured, commonly used in clothing, sportswear, and home textiles.Source: https://ekonomi.bisnis.com/read/20250428/257/1872497/ada-perang-dagang-pengusaha-tekstil-siapkan-investasi-rp421-triliun (ICE GIACARTA)
