Jordanian ministerial sources have reported that U.S. federal officials only made promises to the high-level Jordanian delegation that recently visited Washington regarding the proposed 20% increase in customs duties on Jordanian goods. The delegation, led by Jordanian Prime Minister Dr. Jafar Hassan, included Minister of Industry and Trade Yarub Qudah and Minister of Planning Zeina Toukan. According to the delegation, the customs negotiations were neither effective nor decisive. It appears that the Jordanian officials received only assurances, with no concrete steps taken to reduce customs duties on Jordanian exports.
