Russian official urges CIS nations to shield economies amid global trade shiftsRussian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk called on Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) members to protect domestic markets Tuesday, citing global economic fragmentation and trade disputes as urgent challenges."We need to consider how to protect our markets and our industries. We raised this issue today during the CIS Economic Council meeting," Overchuk told reporters Tuesday in Tashkent on the sidelines of a CIS Economic Council meeting.He urged collective action, stating, "All our countries must assess this situation and respond together to these new challenges, which also present opportunities by fostering stronger trade ties among us. We will intensify cooperation in this area."Overchuk highlighted ongoing efforts within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), noting, "Our countries benefit from shared customs protections under the EAEU framework."Government officials from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan attended the 105th council meeting.
