INDONESIA ACCELERATES SEMICONDUCTOR, AI INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT
The Indonesian government is fast-tracking the development of its semiconductor and artificial intelligence (AI) industries to boost economic growth and support its digital transformation goals. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto emphasized that these sectors will be crucial for driving GDP growth by 2045. The government has established a dedicated task force to develop a semiconductor ecosystem, covering chip design, workforce development, and infrastructure like data centers. Additionally, initiatives are being taken to enhance human resources through scholarships, vocational training, and international academic partnerships, particularly with universities in the U.S. and Singapore. To support industrial growth, Indonesia is promoting investment in semiconductor assembly, testing, and packaging facilities, especially in Batam. The country also aims to expand its AI capabilities, leveraging an existing AI data center in the Nongsa Special Economic Zone. These efforts align with Indonesia’s broader goal to become ASEAN’s largest digital economy, with projections of reaching a digital economy value of US$150 billion by 2025 and US$600 billion by 2030. Regionally, ASEAN’s digital economy could double from US$1 trillion to US$2 trillion under the Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA), further amplifying Indonesia’s strategic ambitions.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/353497/indonesia-accelerates-semiconductor-ai-industry-development (ICE GIACARTA)
