TAIWAN ECONOMICS MINISTRY APPROVES SIX INVESTMENT CASES ASML and Sumitomo to expand semiconductor business in Taiwan

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The economic ministry’s Department of Investment Review approved six major investment cases on Tuesday, including ASML and Sumitomo Corporation.According to the ministry, ASML’s NT$2.62 billion (US$81.96 million) in funding will support the installation, sales, and maintenance of semiconductor laser light source equipment and components, per CNA. Sumitomo, with its NT$2.27 billion injection, will expand import, export, and sales of semiconductor and electronic component materials, per Liberty Times.Another approved case involving Stonepeak Oceanview will see it invest NT$8.75 billion in Top Peak Seaview Investment. Of that amount, NT$8.3 billion will be directed toward offshore wind power through a reinvestment in Formosa 2 International Investment.Regarding outbound investments, Acer will acquire 100% of Embedded City Limited for NT$2.75 billion. The deal will expand Acer’s footprint in point-of-sale systems, kiosks, and industrial computing.Yageo will acquire up to 100% of Japan-listed Shibaura Electronics in a tender offer worth roughly NT$16.65 million.
