INDONESIA TO TIGHTEN EXPORT CERTIFICATES TO CURB TRANSSHIPMENTS
The Indonesian Ministry of Trade has announced stricter oversight of the issuance and use of certificates of origin (SKA) to prevent the country from being misused as a transshipment hub, particularly in response to tactics reportedly used by China amid ongoing global trade tensions. Transshipments involve redirecting goods through third countries to avoid tariffs—practices that have increased following the U.S. tariff hikes under President Donald Trump. Trade Minister Budi Santoso emphasized that the ministry is monitoring SKA circulation and has urged local businesses not to engage in such practices, which could negatively impact Indonesia’s domestic markets. In parallel, the Finance Ministry’s Director of Customs and Excise, Askolani, revealed that Indonesia is preparing additional measures, including the potential implementation of anti-dumping duties, to curb the influx of redirected goods, particularly from China. As China shifts its exports toward Europe in response to weakened U.S. trade relations, the Indonesian government is proactively coordinating with various agencies to adjust trade policies and protect local industries from market distortions caused by transshipped products.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/354429/indonesia-to-tighten-export-certificates-to-curb-transshipments (ICE GIACARTA)
