INDONESIA PLANS 200,000 HA OF NEW MARINE CONSERVATION AREAS IN 2025

The Indonesian Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries has announced plans to establish 200,000 hectares of new marine conservation areas in 2025. The initiative aims to enhance marine ecosystem resilience, protect the environment, and support sustainable economic growth, according to Kartika Listriana, Director General of Marine Spatial Planning, who made the statement on May 7. Listriana emphasized the ministry's commitment to strengthening blue carbon management and improving the effectiveness of conservation area governance. She noted that the initiative is aligned with the country’s broader goals for sustainable marine spatial planning. “The integration of marine spatial planning is vital to ensure that ocean resources are utilized responsibly, sustainably, and equitably—for the benefit of all stakeholders, including coastal communities and future generations,” she stated. As of last year, Indonesia's marine conservation areas covered 29.9 million hectares, according to official data from the ministry.Source: https://en.vietnamplus.vn/indonesia-plans-200000-ha-of-new-marine-conservation-areas-in-2025-post318859.vnp (ICE GIACARTA)
