VIETNAM, SWEDEN SEEK DEEPER TRADE, INVESTMENT TIES THROUGH MUTUAL MARKET ACCESS

On May 12 in Hanoi, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Swedish Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Benjamin Dousa to strengthen Vietnam–Sweden trade and investment ties. Chinh highlighted Vietnam’s role as a gateway to ASEAN for Swedish goods and proposed Sweden help Vietnamese products access the Nordic market. Despite bilateral trade reaching US$1.5 billion in 2024—a 15% increase—he noted this is still below potential and urged deeper cooperation in green growth, digital transformation, healthcare, education, and technology. Dousa praised Vietnam’s economic progress, with 7% GDP growth in 2024 and an 8% target for 2025, and committed to supporting the ratification of the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) and efforts to lift the IUU yellow card on Vietnamese seafood.
