VIỆT NAM RE-ELECTED AS CHAIR OF WCO’S PERMANENT TECHNICAL COMMITTEE
Việt Nam has been re-elected chair of the World Customs Organization (WCO)’s Permanent Technical Committee (PTC) for the 2025–26 term, reaffirming its influential role in global customs policy. The position will again be held by Nguyễn Thị Vĩnh Hoài, Counsellor at the Vietnamese Embassy in Belgium. At the 247th/248th PTC session in Brussels, nearly 300 global customs experts discussed key issues including e-commerce regulation, digital transformation, climate change, customs cooperation, and trade facilitation. Key outcomes included: Advancements in smart customs and digital tools like the Customs Data Exchange Platform. Progress on the rules of origin digitisation and green customs initiatives. Updates to the WCO’s Mercator Programme for implementing the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement. Focus on supporting MSMEs, securing vulnerable borders, and enhancing customs performance metrics.
