EBRD downgrades Kazakhstan’s 2025 GDP growth forecast to 4.9%The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has revised down its forecast for Kazakhstan’s GDP growth in 2025 to 4.9%, while maintaining the 2026 forecast at 4.5%, according to the updated Regional Economic Prospects report released by the bank.In February, the EBRD had projected Kazakhstan’s economic growth for 2025 at 5.2%."Anticipated tax reforms, including an increase in the VAT rate, could amplify inflationary pressures. However, improvements in revenue collection efficiency are expected to gradually reduce the budget’s reliance on the National Fund. Real GDP growth is projected to reach 4.9% in 2025, slowing to 4.5% in 2026," the EBRD report stated.In 2024, Kazakhstan’s GDP growth stood at 4.8%. According to the Cabinet of Ministers’ forecasts, the country’s GDP growth in 2025 is projected to reach 5.6%, with an average annual GDP growth rate of 5.4% over the next five years. (ICE ALMATY)
