MARKET SHARE GROWS, INDONESIA AIMS TO LEAD ASEAN EV INDUSTRY
Indonesia’s battery-based electric vehicle (KBLBB) market is growing rapidly, with market share rising from 1.7% in 2023 to 4.99% in 2024. Hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) led 2024 sales with 55,730 units, followed by battery electric vehicles (BEVs) at 43,194 units. Despite this, Indonesia leads ASEAN in BEV production with 25,861 units, ahead of Thailand's 1,198 units. The government, optimistic about overcoming infrastructure challenges, aims to make Indonesia the region's KBLBB production hub. Currently, the country hosts 7 EV car and 6 bus manufacturers with a combined annual capacity of over 62,000 units and IDR 5.53 trillion in investments. Charging infrastructure is also expanding quickly, with thousands of public and home-based charging stations supporting rising EV adoption. ENTREV reports a 14-fold increase in four-wheeled charging stations since 2021, with a current KBLBB-to-charger ratio of 17:1. This infrastructure growth mirrors adoption patterns in China and the U.S., where exponential increases occurred in the fourth year. With domestic production making EVs more affordable, projections suggest further acceleration toward a 15:1 ratio by 2028–2030. Stakeholder collaboration across the value chain remains key to sustaining this momentum.Source: https://industri.kontan.co.id/news/market-share-meningkat-indonesia-optimis-jadi-pemain-penting-industri-ev-di-asean (ICE GIACARTA)
