Samruk-Kazyna Fund to improve efficiency, increase assets value - TokayevDuring a meeting with Samruk-Kazyna CEO Nurlan Zhakupov, the President outlined a series of tasks for the fund.The head of state also emphasized the importance of establishing long-term investment partnerships with major global funds from Asia, Europe, and the United States.In turn, Zhakupov reported a 39% growth in the state fund’s net profit and a 9% increase in operating profit for 2024.According to Zhakupov, four major infrastructure projects were completed in 2024: restoration of Unit No. 1 at the Ekibastuz GRES-1 power plant; launch of a transport and logistics terminal in Xi’an (China); completion of gas infrastructure for the Almaty Energy Complex; commissioning of the fifth gas reinjection compressor at the Karachaganak field. Additionally, in May 2025, the bitumen production expansion project was launched, finalizing the modernization of the Kazakh-Chinese Caspi Bitum plant in Aktau.“By the end of this year, seven more major investment projects are to be completed, including:desalination plant in the village of Kenderly; bypass railway line around Almaty; container hub at the Aktau Port; Taldykorgan-Usharal main gas pipeline; a wind turbine component plant in the Zhambyl region,” the statement said.Furthermore, the second rail line on the Dostyk-Moyynty section in the Karaganda region is planned to be completed a year ahead of schedule. This project, aimed at boosting the country’s transit potential, began in November 2022.Tokayev was also briefed on the progress of the national Comfortable School project.“To date, 106 schools have been built, with another 102 scheduled for completion by the end of the year,” the press release said.Sovereign Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna JSC was established in 2008. The fund manages Kazakhstan’s largest strategic companies, including Air Astana, Kazakhtelecom, Kazatomprom, KazMunayGas, KazPost, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, KEGOC, and others. (ICE ALMATY)
