BATAM DATA CENTER PUSH TO ALLOW EQUAL INVESTMENT DISTRIBUTION IN INDONESIA
The Indonesian government is prioritizing the development of a national data center in Batam, Riau Islands, due to its strategic location, aiming to promote equitable investment distribution. Deputy Minister Ricky Kusmayadi highlighted that Southeast Asia’s data center infrastructure is projected to grow by up to 200%, surpassing global averages, fueled by the expansion of AI, cloud technology, social media, and e-commerce. Indonesia is set to play a key role in this growth, with its data center capacity expected to more than double from 430 MW to 936 MW by 2028, supported by strong demand, connectivity, AI readiness, affordable land, and competitive energy costs. Director General Mira Tayyiba added that Indonesia’s large digital economy, high internet penetration, and vast renewable energy potential—207 GW from solar and 29 GW from geothermal—make it an attractive destination for digital infrastructure investment, including sustainable data centers.Source: https://en.antaranews.com/news/355373/batam-data-center-push-to-allow-equal-investment-distribution-govt (ICE GIACARTA)
