DENIM EXPO FOCUSES ON BUILDING INDUSTRY CAPACITY POST-LDC
The Bangladesh Denim Expo wrapped up on May 13, highlighting the denim industry's readiness for the country's transition from Least Developed Country (LDC) status. The two-day event in Dhaka featured 57 exhibitors from 13 countries, focusing on innovation, sustainability, and capacity building for the post-LDC era. The 18th edition of the expo drew participants from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, China, Turkey, Spain, Italy, Vietnam, UAE, Germany, Switzerland, and the USA. Mostafiz Uddin, founder and CEO of Bangladesh Denim Expo, emphasized Bangladesh's growing relevance in the global apparel market, noting a 26.64% year-on-year increase in exports to the United States in early 2025. He stressed the necessity for skill development and sustainability as leverage in future trade negotiations, especially with the impending loss of duty-free access to the EU without securing GSP Plus benefits. This year's expo marked a shift towards capacity building, including a key presentation by Mohammad Jahangir Alam and two panel sessions featuring industry experts. The event also showcased a fashion trend zone with innovative denim technologies and sustainable fabrics from Bangladesh. (ICE NEW DELHI)
