UZBEKISTAN-HUNGARY-NPP-AGREEMENT
Uzatom signs agreement with Hungary's MVM EGI on nuclear power plant cooling systems, localizationUzbekistan's Uzatom Agency and Hungary's state-owned MVM EGI Zrt have signed a cooperation agreement and a memorandum of understanding, the Uzatom press service said."The agreement calls for joint scientific research, the development and implementation of advanced technological solutions, the supply and use of dry cooling systems at nuclear power plants, localization of related technologies, the establishment of necessary infrastructure and the organization of professional training and capacity building for specialists in the field," it said.The memorandum is aimed at establishing long-term partnership. "The document defines the means of interaction for projects for the construction of nuclear power plants in Uzbekistan," the statement said.The documents were signed following bilateral negotiations on May 20 as part of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's the official visit to Hungary.Founded in 1948, MVM EGI Zrt specializes in the development of water-saving cooling systems. The company produces dry cooling for all types of steam cycles, including fossil fuel, nuclear, solar and biomass power plants; combined dry/wet cooling systems; air cooling towers for evaporative cooling of power plants and industrial facilities.Rosatom's engineering division, Atomstroyexport (ASE) signed a contract to build a small capacity NPP with Uzatom's NPP Construction Directorate in May 2024. The project calls for building a 330 MW Russian-designed NPP with six 55 MW reactors in Uzbekistan's Jizzakh Region. Rosatom will be the general contractor and local companies will also be involved. The plant is scheduled to go into operation in stages in 2029-2033.The site layout for the small NPP in Jizzakh region was approved at a joint meeting of the task force and scientific council for the project in May this year.Uzbekistan is also thinking of building a large NPP.
