VIETNAM-CHINA CROSS-BORDER TRAIN SERVICE TO RESUME SOON

Vietnam and China will resume their cross-border passenger train service between Gia Lam Station in Hanoi and Nanning City on May 25, 2025, after a four-year suspension due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The trains, coded T8701/MR2 and T8702/MR1, will operate via the Dong Dang–Pingxiang border gate, following approvals from the Vietnamese Ministry of Construction and agreements with Chinese authorities. The service resumption aligns with bilateral efforts to boost trade, tourism, and connectivity, highlighted in a joint statement during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Vietnam in April 2025. The Hanoi–Dong Dang line, Vietnam’s only dual-gauge railway, enables seamless travel into China without transfers. The decision to restart service was finalized on May 13, following coordination between local authorities from both countries. This move is expected to enhance regional integration and economic exchange, while reinforcing diplomatic ties between Vietnam and China. (ICE HO CHI MINH CITY)
