NEARLY 80% OF YOUNG WORKERS IN HCMC SEEK JOBS ON SOCIAL MEDIA: SURVEY

A recent survey shows that nearly 79% of young job seekers in Ho Chi Minh City are turning to social media to find employment, surpassing traditional job websites. Conducted by Ton Duc Thang University, the study surveyed over 5,500 youths—mostly university students aged 18–25. While 31.6% prioritize salary and benefits, 78.2% still expect fair compensation. However, many face challenges such as job market competition (79.25%), lack of experience (63.6%), and limited skills (50.8%). Despite this, over half are willing to work outside their fields of study. Education and healthcare are the most desired sectors, followed by services, finance, and banking. In terms of employment type, 44% prefer state-owned enterprises. Salary expectations vary, with most seeking VND10–20 million monthly. Ideal workplace traits include professionalism (34.8%) and friendliness (28.3%). The findings were discussed at the “Young workforce – Aspiration for city development” forum on May 21, organized by the HCMC Youth Employment Services Center. (ICE HO CHI MINH CITY)
