VIETNAMESE MANGOES DOMINATE CHINESE MARKET

Vietnam secured a commanding 97% share of China’s mango imports in Q1 2025, exporting 40,700 tonnes worth US$28 million—a 145-fold increase year-on-year. This dominance stems from competitive pricing, consistent quality, and favorable harvest timing during China’s off-season. Vietnamese mangoes averaged $700/tonne, far below Thailand and Peru’s $6,000–$11,000 range, while proximity to China ensured lower logistics costs and fresher fruit. Popular varieties like cát Hòa Lộc and cát Chu gained traction for both fresh consumption and processing. Despite success, industry experts urge market diversification and post-harvest investment to mitigate seasonal price drops and reduce overreliance on China. (ICE HO CHI MINH CITY)
