TAIWAN’S FOXCONN TO SET UP JOINT VENTURE IN FRANCE NT$8.54 billion chip packaging and testing plant to serve Europe market

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Foxconn announced Tuesday a joint venture with French firms Thales and Radiall to build an advanced semiconductor packaging and testing plant in France. The new facility will serve the European market, with applications spanning automotive, aerospace, and defense, per CNA. The investment is estimated at NT$8.54 billion (US$283.21 million).Franck Paris, director of the French Office in Taipei, described the project as a win-win: Thales gains a key partner in the semiconductor industry, while Foxconn gains access to Europe’s space sector. He added that this is the second-largest Taiwanese investment in France over the past two years, following ProLogium Technology’s battery factory.Europe aims to build semiconductor autonomy but still lags behind Taiwan’s supply chain capabilities, Paris explained, per Liberty Times. Developing manufacturing capacity with key players is part of Europe’s roadmap to industry independence. When asked about concerns over US policies limiting Taiwanese investment in Europe, Paris acknowledged competition but said there is no alarm. Paris also highlighted France’s dual strategy of attracting Taiwanese investment and fostering friendship, especially in R&D. Promising cooperation is emerging, with French startups like LumiSync working with Taiwanese giants such as TSMC and Foxconn to develop energy efficiency technologies.May. 21, 2025 17:40Michael NakhiengchanhTaiwan News, Staff Writer (ICE TAIPEI)
