TSMC EXECUTIVE SAYS CHIP INDUSTRY WILL GROW OVER 10% THIS YEAR Semiconductor sector’s market value could total NT$30.34 trillion by 2030

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — TSMC Deputy co-COO Kevin Zhang (張曉強) said the chip industry will grow by more than 10% this year.TSMC hosted the 2025 Taiwan Technology Symposium in Hsinchu on Thursday, per CNA. Zhang said the semiconductor industry would continue to grow at a healthy rate of 10%, while the industry’s market value could total NT$30.34 trillion (US$1 trillion) by 2030.Zhang said 2024 was the year of AI, and demand for applications would drive the semiconductor industry in 2025. This includes 5 nm, 4 nm, and 3 nm advanced processes and advanced packaging technology.Zhang said AI applications are estimated to comprise 45% of chip sales by 2030. He said smartphones are expected to make up 25%, automobiles 15%, and the Internet of Things 10%.The automobile market has weakened, he added, but semiconductor applications will continue to advance technologies, such as automated driving. He said that most self-driving functions use 12 nm and 8 nm processes, but could use 5 nm in the future. Lastly, Zhang said TSMC's 1.4 nm process technology, or A14, is expected to be mass-produced by 2028. Compared with the 2nm process, the A14 will increase speed by 10% to 15% and reduce power consumption by 25% to 30%.May. 16, 2025 11:56Lily LaMattinaTaiwan News, Staff Writer (ICE TAIPEI)
