ChatGPT becomes VAT payer in KazakhstanChatGPT will now pay value-added tax (VAT) for services provided to individuals in Kazakhstan in accordance with the country’s tax laws, the State Revenue Committee of Kazakhstan’s Finance Ministry announced."In a move to improve cooperation with global digital platforms, OpenAI, L.L.C., the leading U.S.-based company specialized in artificial intelligence and widely known as the developer of the ChatGPT intelligence system, has been registered [as a taxpayer in Kazakhstan] as of May 2025. Now, ChatGPT will pay VAT for services provided to individuals in Kazakhstan under the tax laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan," the State Revenue Committee said in a Tuesday statement.The Committee said that Kazakhstan has applied a digital services tax -- the so-called Google Tax -- since 2022. This measure has been an important step toward ensuring fair taxation of multinational IT companies operating in the republic.ChatGPT is an AI-powered chatbot based on the GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer) language model.
