Kazakhstan-China rail freight volume rises 13% in Jan-Apr 2025Rail freight volume between Kazakhstan and China increased by 13% year-on-year in the first four months of 2025, reaching 11.4 million tonnes, Kazakhstan's national railway operator KTZ reported.The Dostyk border crossing handled 6.2 million tonnes, up 5% from the same period last year, while the Altynkol crossing saw a 24% increase to 5.2 million tonnes.KTZ noted that rail freight between the two countries has grown by 48% over the past five years, reaching 32 million tonnes annually.In 2024, Kazakhstan exported more than 3.3 million tonnes of grain products to China, including 1.8 million tonnes of grain and 1.5 million tonnes of processed goods. Flour and other milled products accounted for 600,000 tonnes, marking a 30% year-on-year increase, while animal feed exports surged by 400% to 900,000 tonnes. (ICE ALMATY)
