AGRICULTURE PLAYERS LEAN ON TECH TO RAISE PRODUCTIVITY

On May 9, The PAN Group signed an MoU with the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences to boost cooperation in human resource development, research, technology transfer, and international collaboration. On the same day, its member Vinaseed partnered with the Mekong Delta Rice Research Institute to jointly develop and test crop varieties. These agreements were made during an international conference in Hanoi focused on climate-resilient crop breeding. CEO Nguyen Thi Tra My emphasized that crop breeding is a national mission tied to food security, calling for innovation through gene editing, AI, and biotechnology. In 2024, Vietnam’s agricultural exports reached $62.5 billion, including a record nine million tonnes of rice. Despite progress, challenges such as limited genetic resources and skilled personnel remain. Businesses contribute 60% of certified seed varieties and play a key role in research. Strengthened collaboration with institutes is seen as vital to meeting sustainable development goals and enhancing competitiveness. (ICE HO CHI MINH CITY)
