FURTHER REFORM MUCH ANTICIPATED FOR AVIATION SECTOR

Vietnam’s aviation sector is poised for continued recovery in 2025, driven by fleet expansions and falling fuel prices, enabling lower airfares. Passenger numbers are forecast to hit 84.2 million in 2025, up 10% from 2024. In the first months of 2025, air transport reached over 20.7 million passengers (up 9.2% YoY), with international travel growing 12.3%. Cargo volume also rose 12.4% to 329,000 tonnes. Despite aircraft shortages, major airports like Tan Son Nhat have recorded over 1,000 daily flights. The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) is advancing reforms, including amendments to the Civil Aviation Law and master planning for airports through 2030. Work continues on Long Thanh International Airport’s first phase, with coordination around flight slots and ticketing. Aviation safety and digital transformation efforts have also intensified, achieving 98% digitalisation. Further legal reform is expected to support business activity and enhance the sector’s resilience and competitiveness. (ICE HO CHI MINH CITY)
