SWEDEN SEES VIỆT NAM AS A MARKET OF OPPORTUNITY AND INNOVATION: MINISTER
During a visit to Việt Nam, Swedish Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Benjamin Dousa, emphasized the country's strategic role as a fast-growing economy and key trade partner for Sweden and the EU. He noted that around 70 Swedish companies are already active in Việt Nam, and he aims to raise that number to 100–150, particularly in sectors like green technology, digital transformation, and R&D. Dousa praised Việt Nam’s impressive economic progress, skilled workforce, and infrastructure investments, which have helped it climb the global value chain. He highlighted opportunities for Swedish businesses in clean tech, construction, healthcare, education, and consumer retail. A recent example is Syre’s billion-dollar investment in the country. Sweden supports Việt Nam’s digital transformation and views collaboration in innovation as a priority. The minister stressed the importance of free trade, noting both countries’ shared commitment to open markets. He also called for greater use of the EU–Việt Nam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), encouraging other EU members to ratify the related investment protection agreement. Dousa concluded by commending Việt Nam’s reform efforts and openness, which he believes position it as an ideal partner for long-term cooperation and innovation. (ICE HO CHI MINH CITY)
