Việt Nam’s industrial production index (IIP) grew by 8.4% year-on-year in the first four months of 2025 — the second-highest growth rate since 2021, according to the General Statistics Office. The key driver was the manufacturing and processing sector, which rose 10.1%, contributing 8.5 percentage points to overall growth. The electricity production and distribution sector increased by 5.1%, while water supply and waste management rose 10.2%. However, the mining sector declined by 4.5%, slightly offsetting gains. Phú Thọ led provincial growth with a 46.1% IIP increase, driven by a strong performance in manufacturing and processing (47.4%). Hòa Bình followed with 27.3% growth, excelling in electricity production (63.7%). Bắc Giang and Nam Định ranked third and fourth, respectively. In Quảng Ngãi, IIP increased 21.5%, aided by a 168.2% surge in mining, fueled by high demand for materials in infrastructure projects such as highways and economic zones. (ICE HO CHI MINH CITY)
