HCM CITY PLANS MULTI-CENTRED URBAN MODEL TO DRIVE GROWTH BY 2040
The HCM City People's Committee has proposed to the Prime Minister and Ministry of Construction an updated master plan for 2040 with a vision toward 2060. The city will be divided into six multifunctional planning zones, each designed to boost key regional, national, and global roles while creating jobs and enhancing living standards. The zones will be integrated with public transport to ensure connectivity. The Central Urban Zone, covering downtown and Chợ Lớn, will focus on administration, commerce, and a knowledge-based economy. The Eastern Zone in Thủ Đức will specialize in innovation, education, high-tech industries, and healthcare, with the International Financial Centre in Thủ Thiêm. The Western Zone in Bình Chánh will develop industrial, biomedical, and educational hubs. The Northern Zone will blend services, culture, agriculture, and tourism. The Southern Zone in District 7 will emphasize high-tech, arts, eco-tourism, and marine economy. Lastly, the Southeastern Zone in Cần Giờ will focus on ecology, marine economy, and tourism.
